If you’re familiar with our work at RI Studio, you know our passion lies in designing spaces that suit the individual style and needs of our clients. One of our most recent projects, Moody Modern allowed us to do just that. This new build in Prosper, Texas features beautiful modern architecture, but it initially lacked the necessary finishing touches such as wallcoverings, artwork for empty walls, area rugs, and appropriately scaled furnishings. We incorporated refined, contemporary pieces without sacrificing elements of comfort and durability for our client’s growing family. Our primary goal was to make this new house truly feel like a home.

The addition of custom drapery panels with a brass rod, finishes this dining room and provides a pop of pattern against the strong black walls. The clients wanted to keep their existing dining table, but the builder installed a light fixture that was too small in scale. The solution was sourcing a larger more linear light fixture that brought a clean modern look and blends beautifully in the room. Since this space functions as the main eating area for our client, durability was a key factor in selecting these vegan leather upholstered dining chairs and forgoing an area rug that will ensure easy clean-up for this family with young kids.

The client already had this artwork, but it was swallowed by a large wall, so we positioned it in this small nook in the dining room above a custom-built storage cabinet. Appropriately pairing this piece with a more proportionate backdrop helps to showcase its emotive style and compliments the décor elements close by, giving this area of the dining room its own time to shine.

One of our favorite things about this project is that there is a story behind almost every component. The art that inspired the entire color scheme of the main areas was actually this original piece that the client had. Drawing out the bold jewel tones throughout the space brought warmth and continuity. The console table is a bespoke design by us, made from a damaged live edge wood slab they had on their old dining table. These vintage painted table lamps are repurposed and brought to this Century with bold black drum shades.

When designing for a larger family, plenty of seating is a top priority. This custom Taylor King sectional in light camel leather is not only durable but oh so functional to sit everyone. With tall backs and tons of pillows, the sectional easily accommodates both the kids and the adults. The area rug is a heathered beauty from Loloi, which was a bit of a splurge but will weather so well. If you look closely, it has every color of the space weaved throughout. Green velvet swivel chairs provide additional seating and allow for turning around to view the client’s beautiful view through floor-to-ceiling windows.

The entry way sets the stage for the home; therefore, it should be inviting while hinting at the color, story, and design style for the rest of the spaces. It’s also important that it has an element of function, which is why we added a basket for blankets or shoes and a console for mail or keys.

Unwinding doesn’t get much better than this primary bedroom. Our client needed a space to retreat to, and maybe even lock the door for a moment of peace and quiet! So, we obliged by adding textured grass cloth on the headboard wall and warm neutrals with plush velvet textures.

When styling this home, we took an organic approach to modern design using clean lines and effortless sophistication. We were able to incorporate some of the client’s existing pieces while maintaining that cohesive look throughout the project. Luxury mingles with function and ease so that this family can grow comfortably in their new space. Whether it’s a renovation or new build, RI Studio would love to help you achieve the home of your dreams. Visit our website here to learn more about our services and schedule a consultation!
